Shop update : l'été à la française

Gee, it's sure been a while since my last consistent shop update!

I've slowly been adding a few things here and there, but didn't really have time for a full, coherent collection.

This new selection of things is pretty much spot on summer dream wardrobe : breezy fit and flare dresses, full swingy skirts, a few cute blouses and the best pairs of denim for those rainy July days we still seem to get now and again. Including the ultimate Jane Birkin 70s flares.

Paired with sandals and variations on straw boater hats, they're perfect for the warm weather insouciance of picnics and outdoor night movie watching.

Just the usual Parisian summer activities with whine drinking by the Canal, long afternoons in Buttes Chaumont and films projected in the Parc de la Vilette.

Just easy stylish things you can throw on in a heartbeat, spend all day walking in and still look gorgeous with that French I-just-woke-up-like-this attitude. Oh, and don't forget your red lipstick!
And Parisian's best kept secret for a fresh look in the summer heat - the eau thermale Vichy/Uriage/Evian misting spray.

And now all these beauties are up in the shop. These babies will not last too long!

Shop Update : winter florals and pastels

Finally! The long-awaited update is online! I've been planning on doing it for at least two weeks now, but alas my life has been pretty crazy busy.

I need to get back into regular updates schedule, now that my two-performances-in-3-days week is over. Being a performer is hard! But so so so much fun! And so rewarding when things work out well.

Anyway, I am very happy with this little collection; it's just February-ready - it has a few winter things, lots of black, grey and pink (pastel goth anyone?) and floral, spring like pieces.

It's also been Menswear Fashion Week in Paris; of course I didn't see any shows, but I've been spotting a lot more uber-stylish people taking photos around Pont des Arts on my way to school.

All these knits, 70s dresses and the super-cool menswear Dries van Noten belt (!! i know right?) are now in the shop.

Other blogging activities shall resume soon.

Have a great week everyone!

Warm Grey : an easy outfit and a shop update

The first rule of Parisian weather : it's never sunny when you want it to be. Second rule of Parisisan weather : it's almost never sunny. Third rule: it's DEFINITELY not gonna be sunny for two days in a row.

Warm grey. That's how I would describe the weather this week - gravitating around 20C(70F), a little windy, a few drops of rain and a little sunshine for 20 minutes right before the sunset.

After the ''heatwave'' last weekend I was raiding my wardrobe looking for summer essentials to add to the shop; and, of course, by the time I was ready to photograph them it was all back to grey again.

The last twist of this ironic tale- by the time it was nice out again (aka today), I was without a camera or a photographer.

So I decided to just stick to the best dress form shots I could take; I do prefer styling items and proposing an outfit to the shopper along the more neutral shots, but sometimes it's also nice to do things in a more simple way.

Personally when shopping online I prefer a clear dress form shot rather than an over stylized shot where you can't really see the clothes. Then again it's nice seeing things on a person, especially when buying dresses.

This is an outfit I wore on a quick trip to the post office; it's one of those things that you just slip on and they're stylish, comfortable AND practical! I really love this jumpsuit, but I already have a few so I figured it better go in the shop. The loafers are probably the cheapest shoes I ever thrifted (50cents!) and they have pretty much the perfect cognac beat-up look. Plus tassels! Tassels!

My hair is growing into a weird mess, I really need to find a shampoo that doesn't make it super puffy or grease it up too much. Having had dreadlocks for 6 years, I'm pretty puzzled by having ''normal'' hair again. Any suggestions?

... and now for something completely different!

50s Hairspray skirt                                              70s Calico Bandwagon twirly skirt

70s Le genou de Claire open knit sweater                        80s Alice in Wonderland Cardigan

90s Clueless Mesh Tank top                                    80s Dirty Dancing Bodysuit

70s Mes petites amoureuses High Waisted Jeans           In the Mood for Love Maxi Silk Dress

That's about it for now, the Seven Year Itch dress is still waiting for proper dress form photos, but it should be in the store no later than Tuesday.

The next big update will probably be mostly accessories (think silk scarves, hippie bags and vintage eyewear) along with a few vintage slips, but I still have a few very special vintage dresses that might require a more elaborate treatment (including a 30s cotton lawn swiss dot rose number and two of the sweetest 50s velvet dresses!).

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Days of Heaven : early summer look book 2013

Summer is a magical season - vacation, flowers, going to the beach... For a few years now Romanian summers started getting hotter and hotter, with constant temperatures above 30C(90F) followed by short violent thunderstorms.

Parisian summers are nothing like that : they're relatively mild and rainy, with the occasional freak heatwave.

Having experienced a very long winter and almost nonexistent spring this year, I never really packed away my cold weather wardrobe. Then things started intertwining to the point where you couldn't differentiate seasons.

This collection captures exactly this in-between atmosphere, along with a taste for classic shapes and all year round staples. The pieces have been selected for their unique take on classic designs, quality and great attention to detail.

Some of these pieces come from my personal French collection that I started three years ago, while others have been especially purchased with this theme in mind. There are sailor and peter pan collars, Victorian inspirations and even a Liberty of London blouse in the iconic Tana Lawn fabric.

Some of the tops are handmade and one of a kind, others are typically German or Austrian, but they all reflect a certain European style, for sure.

Everyone needs a pretty blouse; why not choose one with a past and a story to tell?

This collection is an exception from the Last Tango in Paris Vintage tradition of coupling each vintage item with a movie reference. Of course, each shirt could have a possible individual name, from Moonrise Kingdom and Wild at Heart to Veronique and Her Week of Wonders, only I wanted to preserve an overall coherence and use a single, central cinematic influence.

The look book's inspiration draws heavily from other Malick films such as Badlands, as well as old Victorian photos, Woodstock snapshots and antique California interiors.

All items will be available tomorrow Saturday evening in the Etsy Boutique.

The Sun Hunters

Hello darlings!

The weather has finally started to move towards more normal temperatures around here. It still doesn't feel like spring yet, not to mention summer.

However, I noticed that somewhere between the late afternoon and sunset there has started to be more and more sunshine. Very tricky sunshine, I must add!

Like you look out the window and think ''oh it's sunny out let's take some photos!'' and by teh time you change and get your camera it's all gone...

So this is what I've been doing this weekend - hunting for the sun. I did freeze my bones off and cursed the wind and the changing clouds, but I'm pretty happy with the results in the end.

Here's a little taste of what you'll be finding in the shop this week : sun and party dresses, cute and cozy cardigans and fun accessories.

In the meantime every dress is linked to the film it references, for sheer cinephile delight.

Enjoy!

Holiday Look book preview

Man, yesterday was SUCH a crazy day!

It started off with an afternoon-long photo shoot with my lovely friend Zhen who's a very funny and quirky Chinese photographer.  He's working a lot for Elite doing model portfolios, mostly.

Viktorja was down with a cold and had a mild fever, but still did an excellent job!

I'm really happy with the results and hopefully we'll collaborate again! These beauties will be in the shop later, stay tuned!
